Dear Joseph,
Winter is colder here than where you are living. It often gets down to and below freezing, so sometimes we take our kayaks to the swimming pool for practice. When you are here we will see what we can do about getting you into a kayak.

Dear Joseph,
Grandma and I are looking forward to your visit. Please let me know what you would like to do while you are in Milwaukee. Remember, we will all be driving to Detroit to meet your parents and to go to the wedding of my niece (my brother's daughter).
You will be meeting all sorts of new people and do lots of stuff, so get ready.

How wonderful to have you and mom here for a few days. I think we had a good time, and I am looking forward to coming back to your house for your birthday. Don't forget to talk with grandma and me on the computer when you have time. Oh, by the way, tell dad that I said it is okay for a fellow your age to watch TV.

I really enjoyed our visit last week, and I think your house is terrific. I never saw so many toys as you have in the basement.
I really want you to know that I WON THE PILLOW FIGHT! You can have a rematch next time.
When you come, if the weather is nice, we will set up the tent.

It was really great having you here over the Thanksgiving holiday. Seeing you get off that train made me happy, and I enjoyed your energy. I hope that next time we can get you into a kayak. Meanwhile, I bet you are excited to be moving into a house with a yard.
It will be nice to be able to just head out the door to play where mom can keep an eye on you.
